Kanye West Season 4 Fashion Show Has The Fashion Industry Talking

Written by

Kanye West launched Season 4 of his clothing line yesterday (Sept 8) in New York and aired it live on Tidal.

The Season 4 fashion show location was a secret until the day of and attendees had to be shuttled there. The secret location was revealed to be Four Freedoms Park an abandoned smallpox hospital on Roosevelt Island.

Many of the people attending expressed their dissatisfaction with the event and how everything worked out. These frustrated attendees vented on Twitter and  took pictures critiquing the fact that the event seemed unorganized and that the models looked miserable and hot.

"Model passed out in the heat is given water by man in the audience but no one on the #YeezySeason4 team helps," said Stella Bugby, editorial director of The Cut.

Among the list of complaints is the fact that the show started late and people had to wait in the heat. The show was suppose to start at 3 but didn't actually start until around 5. Not to mention the fact that Kanye West was late to his own fashion show.

It was reported that Kanye was late because he was involved in a fender bender on his way to the show and he's blaming the sun for the heat seeing as how it's still summer.

Despite all the complaints there were some that genuinely appreciated this new line created by Kanye.

“Lots of shoes breaking today at #YEEZYSEASON4 — But the clothes look good!” said fashion writer Zach Weiss in a live tweet during the event.

Watching the show online the event looked really cool. Rows and rows of models in every shade of black that Kanye could find wearing clothes that appear to be a peak into the future of fashion.

In the model casting call for this fashion show Kanye requested "multiracial women" to come audition with no make up and that explains exactly what we got to witness.

Some women were sitting and some were standing it looks like it was designed to be that way, but attendees of the event are saying that this was because women were exhausted and one is reported to have fainted because of the heat.

The event had plenty of celebrity attendees including: Anna Wintour, Pharrel, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, Pusha T, and a few members the Kardashian Family.

Fans of Kanye seemed to have enjoyed the event, accepted it for what it was, and saw this event as another display of Kanye's artsy mind.

“The thing is, he's an artist. So it's kind of hard to approach it from a fashion perspective … You have to appreciate it as a happening and an experience,” said Paper Magazine editorial director Michael Boardman in an interview with ET.

Among the models we got to see the star of his recent video "Fade" Teyana Taylor walk the runway in a Kanye West original.

In other Kanye West news it looks like Adidas will be working with him to open up a new Kanye themed store. Kanye says that he wants 200 stores but the first will definitely be in California close to where he lives so that he can go and visit and check on the store.

Kanye says that he doesn't consider what he is doing as fashion and sees it more as apparel because it doesn't have the same constraints as fashion.

“I want to make pieces that can be timeless,” he said. “Pieces that you can pick up out of a vintage store in 20 years and say, ‘Wow, I’m happy I have this.' ”

One of the major concerns that people have with Kanye's apparel is that the price is too high but Kanye says that he is working to fix this problem.

"I’m very focused on trying to make things far more affordable, far more beautiful, and for far more people," West said.
